In the community

RBC works in the community in a variety of ways, including local festivals, literature, the coffee shop, open-air meetings, visiting homes and supporting local students...

dickensDickens Festival

RBC participates in the annual Dickens festivals, which are held twice a year in Rochester city centre. Due to our close proximity to the high street, the church is able to have a high profile within the festival.

Our activities include:

• Opening the premises to serve drinks and light lunches.
• Our own Humbug Theatre Company presents a short play based on one of Charles Dickens’ novels – with a Biblical twist to the plot! Through interacting with the crowds who come and watch we are able to engage them in discussion about the Christian faith.
• Face-painting and a Tearcraft stall, along with other seasonal activities are a great way for the church family to interact with the public, share their faith in a practical way, and work together as a fellowship.

The Bookshop/Coffee shop

The Moat House Christian Bookshop and Coffee Shop is a natural link with people who are searching for support or advice, and those who do not go to church. The café area is a great meeting place, and a church member is always available to talk to anyone who wishes to find out more about Christianity and the church.

The Moat House

The Moat House premises are made available to community-based groups for a range of activities throughout the week.

Host Families

RBC offers a support service for International students who attend the colleges and universities in the area. Our aim is to offer practical support through a variety of ways, including English conversation or grammar lessons, accommodation, day trips around Kent, and meals. During term time, we run a weekly Global Café on Tuesday nights. In association with Friends International

Visiting homes

Rochester castle and cathedralMembers of the church frequently visit homes with the purpose of reaching the communities of Medway with the gospel, and to see people saved and added to the church.

Newsworthy

We regularly publish and distribute our community news sheet ‘Newsworthy’ with the aim of keeping local people around Rochester informed about RBC, and to stimulate thought and discussion around a number of relevant topics.

Open-air meetings

Tug of war in the Castle grounds

Eash summer we hold several of our Sunday meetings in the grounds of Rochester Castle.

Meeting in the Castle grounds

This gives us an excellent opportunity to present the gospel to the public in an exciting and relevant way.
